Much of American sense of self-worth today derives from our work.
Technological advances drive increased efficiency, boosting per worker productivity, and enabling more to be done with limited increase to employment – sometimes even reductions.
As this trend continues, greater numbers will no longer find themselves employed in ways that foster self-worth.
What kinds of impact will this have on our sense of identity and what will this in turn do to society on the whole?
